I have had the honor of representing Canarsie, Flatlands, Georgetown, Bergen Beach, Mill Basin, Mill Island, Marine Park, and Gerritsen Beach since 2016, and I am proud to serve the people of South Brooklyn every day.
I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and came to the United States as a young adult in search of opportunity. I grew up in a hardworking, blue-collar household and saw my father work long hours while facing wage theft and unfair treatment. Watching him persevere taught me the value of hard work, integrity, and perseverance.
I began my education at Kingsborough Community College and earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at York College and Fordham University. Later, I returned to Kingsborough to earn my CASAC-T certificate in substance abuse counseling. I know firsthand what it is like to be a struggling mom of two small children, working multiple jobs, including cleaning houses, while going back to school to build a better life. My journey is one built on hard work, faith, and the belief that the American dream belongs to all of us.
My experience as an immigrant, a mother, a social worker, and a community advocate guides my work in the Assembly every day, where I fight to make life more affordable for working families, for safer and stronger neighborhoods, and for the resources our community deserves.
As I run for re-election, I remain committed to serving with the values I learned from my parents and from every step of my own journey. I will continue to show up, to listen, and to work hard for the people of the 59th Assembly District.
Thank you for the honor of serving you and for the opportunity to continue this important work together.
